Caroline Buisman minimizes the significance of commemoration ceremonies

During a hearing in a case opposing the Dutch Prosecution and two Genocides suspects, Jean Claude Iyamuremye and Jean Baptiste Mugumba on 6 June 2016, their Lawyer Ms. Coroline Bruisman made a chocking statement for the survivors of the 1994 Genocide against Tutsis living in the Netherlands. She called commemorations which are organized in the Netherlands “political manipulations”.

IBuka Netherlands was dismayed and chocked by this statement. Ms. Caroline Buisman should not forget that the Genocide against the Tutsis has been recognized by many international organizations, the United States and the Kingdom of the Netherlands among others.  Her statement constitutes an attempt to deny, or to minimize the Genocide against the Tutsis, which Ibuka Netherlands condemns firmly.

The resolution A/RES/58/234 of the United States General Assembly designated the 7th April every year as the International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis in Rwanda. It is therefore unacceptable to say that commemorations events of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsis in The Kingdom of The Netherlands are manipulations.
